There are several ways you can dress for a photoshoot, and really, anything goes!  With a tiny bit of guidance, it’s really easy to have everyone in the family coordinate beautifully!

TWO SIMPLE TIPS:

1. HAVE EVERYONE LOOK LIKE THEY ARE DRESSED GOING TO THE SAME PLACE

What's your vibe?  Formal?  Casual?  Somewhere in-between?
Formal: What would everyone be wearing to a wedding?  Or to a red carpet event?  How would you match your date?
Casual: We still want to look nice, so think more "picnic at the park" versus rough housing with the kids in yoga pants and a t-shirt.  Casual jeans with a simple top can work really well here.
In-Between / Semi-Casual: What would you wear to a bridal or baby shower?  Or to an afternoon brunch?  Not dressed to the nines, but also not super casual either.  Jeans are okay here, as long as they are paired with a nice top.  Maxi-dresses are a fabulous choice if that's your vibe!

2. ALLOW FOR  PERSONALITY TO SHINE THROUGH

Go with the flow, and try your best not to force anything.  If your little one HATES the frilly dress you’re putting her in, let her pick something else. Maybe have a few backups in mind that you still like and will still coordinate. If little man is refusing to wear shoes, let him go barefoot! Or maybe your teenager is insisting on wearing a ridiculous t-shirt. See if they’re in the bargaining mood, and always see what you can do to make it a FUN experience rather than something they HAVE to do/wear.
